No More Horrible Bosses

Take Control by Starting Your Own Future

LOGAN, UTAH-  The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Council is helping students make their dreams become a reality.  Through workshops, competitions, and activities students are learning how to start their own company.

Formerly known as the e-Club, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Council (IEC) is working hard to boost the Entrepreneurial Spirit in the John M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State.  The Council holds multiple competitions throughout the year that range from idea generation to yearly revenue.  Workshops are given to help students get ready to enter and the competitions not only offer huge cash prizes but opportunities to network with experienced business professionals.

As a result of winning the annual Elevator Pitch Competition put on during e-Week Josh Light was able to team up with an engineer to make a prototype to paten turning his idea into reality.  “Winning this competition gave me the confidence to pursue other competitions. To this day, I have won or placed in 11 business competitions across the United States,” he said.

The IEC is a free on campus organization in which anyone interested is encouraged to join.  Club members come from all majors and are led by the Council as their leadership.  Being a part of the club is virtually risk free due to the lack of fee required to join so students can be as involved as they want.  “Becoming a part of the IEC two years ago was the best thing I ever did,” says this year’s IEC President Bri Petersen, “because I got involved I have a job lined up when I graduate; which is something extremely valuable in this economy.  Not to mention the networking with amazing business professionals and organizations.”

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Council at Utah State is the local chapter of the national organization of CEO (Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization).  The IEC’s mission is to provide students with opportunities to have direct contact with successful entrepreneurs, refine business plans and ideas, apply and gain business and leadership experience, provide internship opportunities, and have interaction with other students with the entrepreneurial spirit.
